Mathers, M. (2000) Stan Feb. 22, 2010
On the Marshall Mathers LP (CD). (Medium of recording CD:) 6:50 min.
Los Angeles: The Record Plant

I feel that it is wrong to disrespect women because women are mothers, sisters, aunts, wives and daughters. Women are the human beings who give life to the unborn. I feel very sad and angry if someone would disrespect my mother or sisters. I watched a movie about women and culture and it was sad and disgusting how they treat women in some countries. In my culture, respect towards women is a first come responsibility. Without women, men would have nothing because they take care of us in all ways possible.
In this song the person named Stan is disrespecting his girlfriend by ignoring her, screaming at her, making her pregnant and then killing her in the end. Stan is doing all this to his girlfriend because he is so obsessed with Eminem (rapper), that he talks about him 24/7. Stan prefers his idol over everything, his girlfriend and even including his unborn child. He does not want to deal with other responsibilities other than his own obsessiveness. Stan is constantly writing the rapper letter but he is not getting no reply. He gets mad, ties up his girlfriend, puts her in the trunk of his car, he gets himself drunk and drives off a bridge which is under constuction, killing himself, his girlfriend and unborn child. By the time Eminem responds to Stan's letter, telling him that "I really think that you and your girl need each other, or maybe you need to treat her better." It is already too late. Stan is a dead man along with his girlfriend with unanswered letters.
