Feminsm

Fri. Feb. 26 2010

Feminist ideas have been around for many years, the word ''feminism,, was first used in 1895.The definition is women and girls should have human rights, equal to those enjoyed by men and boy and equal roles and responsibilities in society. A "feminist,, is a person , a women or man who supports feminism.

Feminism can refer both to ideas about women's roles , status , history and to actions such as campaigns for women's rights. Feminist ideas have been developed by in individuals and small groups. Feminism has altered predominant perspectives in a wide range of areas within Western society, ranging from culture to law.

Feminist activists have campaigned for women's legal rights (rights of contract, property rights, voting rights); for women's right to bodily integrity and autonomy, for abortion rights, and for reproductive rights (including access to contraception and quality prenatal care); for protection of women and girls from domestic violence, sexual harassment and rape.

Feminism is both an intellectual commitment and a political movement that seeks justice for women and the end of sexism in all forms. However, there are many different kinds of feminism. Feminists disagree about what sexism consists in, and what exactly ought to be done about it; they disagree about what it means to be a woman or a man and what social and political implications gender has or should have. Nonetheless, motivated by the quest for social justice, feminist inquiry provides a wide range of perspectives on social, cultural, and political phenomena. Important topics for feminist theory and politics include: the body, class and work, disability, the family, globalization, human rights, popular culture, race and racism, reproduction, science, the self, sex work, and sexuality. Extended discussion of these topics is included in the sub-entries to feminism in this encyclopedia.

Mathers, M. (2000) Stan Feb. 22, 2010
On the Marshall Mathers LP (CD). (Medium of recording CD:) 6:50 min.
Los Angeles: The Record Plant

I feel that it is wrong to disrespect women because women are mothers, sisters, aunts, wives and daughters. Women are the human beings who give life to the unborn. I feel very sad and angry if someone would disrespect my mother or sisters. I watched a movie about women and culture and it was sad and disgusting how they treat women in some countries. In my culture, respect towards women is a first come responsibility. Without women, men would have nothing because they take care of us in all ways possible.
In this song the person named Stan is disrespecting his girlfriend by ignoring her, screaming at her, making her pregnant and then killing her in the end. Stan is doing all this to his girlfriend because he is so obsessed with Eminem (rapper), that he talks about him 24/7. Stan prefers his idol over everything, his girlfriend and even including his unborn child. He does not want to deal with other responsibilities other than his own obsessiveness. Stan is constantly writing the rapper letter but he is not getting no reply. He gets mad, ties up his girlfriend, puts her in the trunk of his car, he gets himself drunk and drives off a bridge which is under constuction, killing himself, his girlfriend and unborn child. By the time Eminem responds to Stan's letter, telling him that "I really think that you and your girl need each other, or maybe you need to treat her better." It is already too late. Stan is a dead man along with his girlfriend with unanswered letters.

The purpose for this movie: slumdog millionaire is to show the audience what kids are going
through in mumbai,an asian country. The director of this movie Danny Boyle wants to show his
observers that you do learn from your experiences weather they'er good or bad. He also shows
that there is a lot of poverty in asian countries where schooling, working and just growing up
can be very difficult, expecially when one is an orphan. This movie could go under the
context of religion ,culture, poverty, hardship, and orphanage. My response, to this movie, would be very sad but also happy. It is sad how the kid lost his parents, were brought to a fake orphanage, one of the brother was going to be blinded to become a blinded singer to collect more money, how they escape, about how his brother betrayed him by sleeping with the girl that the other brother liked, leaving everything behind and starting somewhere else, finding his brother and asking for forgiveness, then finally finding his girl and being happy. This movie explains alot of the life of Mumbai slumdogs.
